The Department of Anthropology is dedicated to the holistic study of human beings—past and present—through a broad lens that bridges the biological, cultural, archaeological, and linguistic dimensions of human life. With a strong interdisciplinary foundation, the department aims to foster a deeper understanding of human diversity, social structures, and cultural practices across time and geography.
Drawing from both global and regional perspectives, the department places special emphasis on the rich cultural heritage and indigenous communities of Northeast India. Through fieldwork, critical analysis, and community engagement, students are equipped to explore questions of identity, tradition, adaptation, and transformation in human societies.
