Shri Chandrashekhar H. Vijayashankar, born on 21st October 1956 in Makanoor, Karnataka, is a seasoned Indian politician and the current Governor of Meghalaya, appointed by Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, on 30th July 2024. His political journey began in 1994 as an MLA from Hunsur, Karnataka, and later as a Member of Parliament representing Mysore in the 12th and 14th Lok Sabha. Notably, in 2004, he defeated the royal scion Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, underscoring his strong public connect and leadership.
He also served as Minister for Forest, Ecology, and Environment in Karnataka (2009–2011) and was a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council (2010–2016). Known for his commitment to public service, rural development, and environmental sustainability, his tenure reflects a balance of progressive governance and grassroots engagement.
As Governor, he continues to champion inclusive development, focusing on education, healthcare, infrastructure, and social harmony in Meghalaya.
