
Established in 2025, the Department of Chemistry began with three faculty members and plans to admit its first cohort of 40 postgraduate students in 2026. As one of the most dynamic departments within the prestigious Captain Williamson Sangma State University, it is supported by a team of highly qualified and motivated faculty committed to academic excellence and innovation alongside a progressive administration committed to excellence in teaching and research.
The department has launched the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) under the NEP-2020 curriculum in affiliated colleges across the state and is preparing to introduce postgraduate and Ph.D. programmes in chemistry. Its academic and research initiatives aim to develop a deep understanding of chemical sciences while integrating human resource and entrepreneurship skills to expand students’ career opportunities beyond conventional scientific roles.
Through a balanced blend of rigorous academics, research-driven learning, and skill development in areas such as entrepreneurship and sustainable development, the Department of Chemistry strives to nurture well-rounded graduates capable of contributing innovatively to science, industry, and the socio-economic growth of the region.
