The Department of Philosophy at Captain Williamson Sangma State University is dedicated to fostering a dynamic environment where philosophical inquiry thrives through the integration of both Indian and global intellectual traditions. With a special emphasis on indigenous studies, the department explores and celebrates the rich heritage of Indian philosophical traditions while maintaining dialogue with contemporary Western thought.

The Department of Philosophy envisions creating reflective, responsible, and critically engaged individuals by promoting philosophical thinking rooted in both Indian and global traditions, committed to academic excellence and societal relevance. It seeks to nurture holistic learners who can navigate and respond to the ethical, social, and intellectual challenges of the contemporary world.

Through its comprehensive approach that emphasises holistic and multidisciplinary learning, critical thinking development, research-oriented pedagogy, and community engagement, the department prepares students not only for diverse career pathways in education, law, public policy, and civil services, but also for meaningful participation as ethical citizens who can contribute to building an equitable and sustainable society while honoring the wisdom of indigenous knowledge systems alongside global philosophical discourse.
