Bio:
Mr Venybirth S Ch Marak did an MA in Garo in 2006 at NEHU Tura and was awarded an M.Phil. in Folkloristic by Gauhati University, Guwahati, Assam, in 2011. Before entering into the teaching profession, he worked as a research assistant in the Anthropology Department at NEHU in 2013-14 on the topic Rice and Aˑba Chaˑa Stories, a project sponsored by INGCA New Delhi, and in 2018 An Endangered Material Culture of the Garos of Meghalaya under the same department. He also worked with the EPTISA project on the survey of four villages of the Community Livelihood programme sponsored by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in 2018. He also engaged in the documentation of the Durama Range, specifically focused on Nokrek and Balpakram National Parks for the declaration of the World Heritage Site sponsored by UNESCO. As a freelance researcher and active field worker, he visited different parts of the Garo Hills Region and gained experience with Garo folklore, culture and oral traditions. He has published five books and numbers of literary articles in both Garo and English languages. He served as an assistant professor at ICFAI University Meghalaya from 2020 to 2025. His current position is with the faculty at Captain Williamson Sangma State University, Tura, Meghalaya.
