Meghalaya’s first state-owned university – Captain Williamson Sangma State University – has launched a newly established academic unit committed to fostering a deep understanding of the Assamese language, literature, and culture. The department offers a unique opportunity to learn about Assamese literature and its rich heritage.

Mission: To promote the study, research, and appreciation of the Assamese language, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and cultural awareness among students. The department aims to provide ample research opportunities for students to explore and advance their knowledge of Assamese literature.

Vision: To become a leading center for Assamese studies, providing students with opportunities to explore various career paths in this field. The department strives to promote and preserve the rich cultural heritage of Assam.

Intake Capacity: The department shall have a provision to admit 40 students. However, in future, it aims to increase its seat capacity, catering to the rising demand for Assamese studies.
